We're all in this together!
Hi everyone! I pray you are all doing well, staying healthy, and keeping a positive attitude during this very difficult time all over the world. This COVID-19 pandemic is absolutely awful and devastating to so many families. I thought we could all pass on a positive thought or a favorite quote to help lift our spirits. I'll get things rolling... "HAPPINESS IS NOT THE ABSENCE OF PROBLEMS, IT'S THE ABILITY TO DEAL WITH THEM." -Steve Mariboli, author & behavioral scientist-
As your blog host I'll kick off this page. I am currently reading 2 books; THE OUTSIDER by Stephen King on (page 107/475) and DEAD MAN WALKING (The Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty That Sparked a National Debate) by Sister Helen Prejean (I just started this after watching the movie by the same name).
ReplyDeleteIn book club we're reading "The Sun Does Shine: How I Found Life and Freedom on Death Row"
ReplyDeleteby Anthony Ray Hinton. It was wonderful! Sue, it kind of goes along with your Dead Man Walking death penalty book. Really makes you think!
I'm just starting "Clock Dance" by Anne Tyler, who is one of my favorite authors -- I've read all of her books! Can't wait to get into it!
Just finished "The Hunchback of Notre-Dame" which I have thought for many years that I should have read. And I'll tell you -- I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!! It was a slog to get through and it's really, really sad!!! I can't imagine how Disney made a movie out of it. They would have had to change the story A LOT!
And now, because I'm always catching up on classics, I'm listening to "Adam Bede" by George Eliot which is set in rural England in a farm community; kind of slow and leisurely, but I think I'm going to be getting into some action soon!
I am listening to "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay" by Michael Chabon and loving it so far!
ReplyDeleteOn Kindle I'm reading: "The Sign of Four" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Reading in actual real books: "Light in August" by William Faulkner and "The Power and the Glory" by Graham Greene
Don't know what all I can finish by the end of August!!
Halfway through THE TEMPLAR LEGACY by Steve Berry. Already have book 2 of the Cotton Malone series in my Amazon cart!
ReplyDeleteGetting ready to start THE VENETIAN BETRAYAL by Steve Berry. Book 2 of his Cotton Malone series. Same cast of characters, different country.
ReplyDeleteI just finished IT by Stephen King!! And I'm really proud of myself! ;)
ReplyDeleteI had put this one off for more years than I can count -- well, I guess since 1986 when it first came out! The book is soooo long, and I just wasn't sure if I'd like it that much, even though I had read 11 Stephen King books by the end of 1986 -- maybe the clown put me off a little....I'm not sure. But even so I still had it on the back burner thinking I'd catch up with it sometime. And when I found the paperback at a yard sale for 50 cents, I didn't have any reason to wait any longer.
So on January 1st, 2019 I started reading 10 pages/day until I finished -- on April 19, 2019 -- and I enjoyed those 10 pages every day!! It was a little time in each day that I looked forward to and it was almost always exciting, captivating, and/or entertaining. Stephen King just has a way with words (oh, does he know about words!!), and he just makes you want to keep reading -- even if it's more than a thousand pages :o
In a short summary, Derry, Maine is infested with an evil that preys on children. And a group of seven kids, "The Losers' Club," band together to fight against "IT." They think they have killed, or at least harmed, it in 1958 when they are 11 years old. However, they make a pact that if the killing of children ever begins again, they will all come back to fight. So 27 years later, when they each get the call, they come running to work together again to see what they can do against "IT." And it's pretty exciting ;)
I'm also reading:
ReplyDeleteMiddlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides (I have had this on my shelf forever!! But enjoying it so far.)
Kindred by Octavia Butler (a GR group read)
Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky (a GR group read)
Becoming by Michelle Obama (reading for one of my book clubs & really enjoying listening to Michelle read the audio book!)
I just started FINDERS KEEPERS by Stephen King.
ReplyDeleteGetting ready to start the OUTLANDER series. It's been recommended so many times recently by friends that I'm gonna give it a whirl. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of reading Outlander sometime, but I have so many others to get to first. And I know how long the Outlander books are!! so I know they will take some time and commitment. But let me know how you like it and if you recommend it or not. :)
